Before I Die is a book about a girl who had leukemia and stopped her therapy at the last three months of her life. She made a list of the things that she wanted to try before she died. I drew a girl with most of her body is underneath the water to indicate that this girl is about to die. I drew some pink paper boats to represent her to-do list at the end of her life. In the spine of the book, I used two colors on the book title. “Before I” is above the water, and the background color is white, so I used black text. “Die” is underneath the water, its background color is blue, so I used white text. For the color of the girl’s hair, I chose a very pale red to make her stand out from the blue and white background. The color composition creates a sense of balance.
